This is definately not TOS. It's so much better. Kirk and his crew just
couldn't give a believable performance to save their life(save maybe for
Spock and Dr. Bones). This series however, while starting out a little
shaky, is the best of all the Star Trek TV series.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard takes command of the Enterprise-D, with his bridge
staff of William T. Riker, Lieutenant Commander Data, Counsellor Troi,
Lieutenant Worf, Wesley Crusher, Doctor Crusher's son, and in the first
season, Lieutenant Tasha Yar (who they didn't have the heart to get rid of
completely).

This series starts a whole new group of villains and adventures. The first
villain is Q, whom we meet in the first episode, Mission at Farpoint. In
other shows we meet the Ferengi, they re-introduce the Romulans and
Klingons, an entirely new villain called the Borg, a nearly unstoppable
force, among others.

Data is such an interesting character. He's an android who yearns to become
human. The Counsellor, while she starts out as an annoying shrink, becomes a
beloved character as the show progresses. Doctor Crusher provides a very
caring center for the Enterprise (even though sometimes delivery wasn't
properly executed). Geordi, the blind engineer, is almost like Scotty, only
he isn't as care-free and actually has a life outside of engineering. Wesley
Crusher, a young Starfleet student, while not in the entire series, is very
nicely handled. Even the guest-for-a-season Doctor Pulaski, while I like
Crusher better, is very well-done. The Captain is played to near perfection.
He is definately my favorite Captain. Worf, the Security officer for the
duration of the series, provides an aggressive and impulsive part of the
crew. The only one who I don't really like would have to be Will Riker. He
reminds me too much of Captain Kirk (without the over-acting).

Anyone who likes sci-fi will definately enjoy this series. If you're stuck
in Kirk, get out of that puddle of muck and beam over to the Enterprise-D. A
whole new galaxy awaits you.
